Assuming Win7 64-bit with Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) installed...

Please answer each of the following [admittedly tedious] diagnostic questions in a correspondingly-numbered list in your very next reply, preferably without quoting my post:

1a. When (approx. date) did you purchase the computer?

1b. Did Win7 64-bit come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it, did you do a clean install of Win7, or did you upgrade the computer to Win7?

2. What is the full name of your installed anti-virus application or security suite and when (approx. date) does your current subscription expire? What anti-spyware applications (i.e., other than Defender; e.g., Spybot) are installed? What third-party firewall (if any)?

3. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on the computer since you bought it?

4. Did a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial [PICK ONE] come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)

5. Is KB2977629, KB2972211 & KB2973112; KB2976897, KB2993651, KB2918614, KB2978668, KB2937610 and/or KB2943357 listed in Installed Updates (not Update History )? [1]

6. Assuming Java is installed => Is Java Version 7 Update 65 (or higher) installed? TEST HERE USING INTERNET EXPLORERONLY! => http://java.com/en/download/uninstallapplet.jsp [2]

7. Is Adobe Flash Player v15.0.0.167 (or higher) installed? TEST HERE USING INTERNET EXPLORER ONLY! => http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/

8a. When (exact date) was Windows Internet Explorer 11 installed according to Installed Updates?

8b. What Update Version & KB number are displayed in the second line of text in IEXX's Help | About [Alt+H+A] tab; e.g., Update Version: 11.0.54 (KB1231231) ?

8c. Is Firefox, Chrome or any other alternate browser installed?

9. Are you in the habit of using "Registry cleaners" (e.g., Registry Mechanic; System Mechanic; RegCure; RegClean Pro; Advanced SystemCare; Registry Booster; McAfee QuickClean; Glary Utilities; AVG PC TuneUp; Norton Registry Cleaner; PCTools Optimiser; SpeedUpMyPC; PC Doctor; TuneUp Utilities; WinMaximizer; WinSweeper; Comodo System Cleaner; Advanced System Optimizer; CCleaner'sRegistry Cleaner component)?

Hi: Here are my answers to your questions-THANK YOU

1.A  Aug 2012

1.B  Windows 7 Home Premium-Came preinstalled with computer. I installed Service Pack 1.

2.   I installed Spybot-Search & Destroy V 3.0 Free Edition Basic Tools in May 2014. Product produced by Safer-Networking Ltd. No other firewall other then Defender/Microsoft that came with the computer.

3/4.   McAfee came preinstalled. I don't know which version. I used McAfee's uninstall to remove the program after my subscription ran out (I decided to use your MS Defender and MSE programs) and that was when my problems started. I called both Dell and McAfee and the didn't help at all except try to sell me a new program and or a maintenance program.

5. KB2977629 Installed 9/27/14: KB2972211-9/27/14; KB2973112-9/27/14; KB2976897-9/28/14;

    KB2993651-9/28/14; KB2918614-9/27/14; KB2978668-9/28/14; KB2937610-9/27/14; KB2943357-9/27/14

I have not used my lap top since May 2014. After leaving my computer on for the last week I found these waiting to be installed. I had to do each one individually. This morning I tried to see if there was any more waiting but the computer just kept on searching and the only way I could stop the search was to turn the computer off.

6.  JAVA V7 Update 67

7.  ADOBE Flash Player V 15.0.0.167

8.A  Internet Explorer 11-Installed 12/5/13

8.B  2nd Line IEXX Help is-Update V11.0.12 (KB29776290

8.C  Firefox V 29.0.1 and Chrome-I don't use Chrome but I do use Firefox once in a while

9.  Free Registry Repair V 3.0 By Regsofts software Installed May 2014. I used this cleaner after I removed McAfee. After I removed McAfee I tried to install MSE and at this point in time I had a problem installing MSE. The computer told me I had a bad registry Key and would not let me install the program. That is why I tried Registry Repair.

Once again THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP

To troubleshoot most computer problems it helps to look at available clues in the System Information file and the Event Viewer logs. An experienced eye can pick out the needles in the haystack and see more clearly the precise nature of the problem or problems.

Please provide a copy of your System Information file. Type System Information in the Search Box above the start Button and press the ENTER key (alternative is Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information). Select File, Export and give the file a name noting where it is located. Do not place the cursor within the body of the report before exporting the file. The system creates a new System Information file each time system information is accessed. You need to allow a minute or two for the file to be fully populated before exporting a copy. Please upload to your OneDrive (formerly Sky Drive), share with everyone and post a link here. Reports in normal mode preferred. Please say if the report has been obtained in safe mode.

Please upload and share with everyone copies of your System and Application logs from your Event Viewer to your OneDrive and post a link here.

To access the System log select Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer, from the list in the left side of the window expand Windows Logs and select System. Place the cursor on System, select Action from the Menu and Save All Events as (the default evtx file type) and give the file a name. Do the same for the Applications log. Do not provide filtered files. Do not place the cursor in the list of reports before selecting Action from the menu. Do not clear logs whilst you have a continuing problem.

I went through the steps listed above for both the system information and the system & application files.  What I found was that when I tried to "export" and or "save all files as" my document files under Documents Library came into view. My question is will I be posting my full document file on line or is this where I will be saving the files and logs needed to find any warnings and errors? As you can see this is all new to me.
